Oscar-winning Halle Berry played the character of Jinx opposite Pierce Brosnan‘s James Bond in the 2002 film Die Another Day. Halle has a very natural beauty and somehow seems to get more beautiful as she gets older and at 35 at the time of filming, makes her one of the oldest Bond Girls. Before she became an actress she competed in several beauty contests, finishing 1st runner up in the Miss USA Pageant in 1986 and also coming in 6th place in the Miss World Pageant of the same year.
Jinx narrowly missed out on making my Definitive Top 10 Bond Girls list (she was placed 11th) as although she scored very highly on both hotness and impact (who can forget that scene of her coming out of the water in her orange bikini), she did not score well on character. Unfortunately Die Another Day is a very poor Bond film (it is currently the lowest ranked of all the Bond films on IMDb) and although there was potential for her character to be great, it is let down by some clumsy and forced dialogue. As a result there seems to be little chemistry between her and Pierce Brosnan.
It was very brave of Halle to recreate probably the most iconic moment of all James Bond films, Ursula Andress (Honey Ryder) emerging from the sea in her white bikini. If she had not done it well she would have come under a lot of criticism but she looks absolutely amazing. See her do it again in the clip below and then keep watching to hear some very bad dialogue where she first meets James Bond.
Both before and after Die Another Day, Halle has had a profilic and successful acting career, starring in films such as Boomerang (1992), The Flintstones (1994), X-Men films (2000, 2003 & 2006), Swordfish (2001), Monster’s Ball (2001 – for which she won an Academy Award), Catwoman (2004), Perfect Stranger (2007). As well as these films, she also won a Golden Globe for best Actress in a TV Movie/Mini-Series for portraying Dorothy Dandridge in the 1999 TV Movie Introducing Dorothy Dandridge.
